Crosscutters Late Charge Falls Short

Game Highlights: June 25, 2017 – Trailing 8-1 heading into the 8th, the Williamsport Crosscutters rallied to plate four runs, but would not be able to complete the comeback falling 9-5 to the Auburn Doubledays.

Josh Stephen finished the afternoon with a two-hit ball game, including a double and a run scored to spark the four-run 8th inning.
Malvin Matos recorded a three-hit game, including a double and a RBI to go along with a runs scored. Matos’ RBI came in the 8th inning single to left field.

In his professional debut, Brian Mims went 2 for 4 with a RBI double in the 8th inning.

Before the game, the Crosscutters added seven new players to their roster, with four making their professional debuts (Jake Scheiner, Austin Listi, Brian Mims and Addison Russ).

Cutters Starter Gustavo Armas surrendered a season-high six runs on on six hits, including a pair of two-run home runs to the Auburn Doubledays.

Game Highlights: June 24, 2017 – Williamsport got a pair of home runs from Jonathan Guzman and LuisEncarnacion, but fall 7-6 in 11 innings against the Auburn Doubledays.

17 year old Jonathan Guzman (1) gave the Crosscutters a 5-4 lead with his first home run of the season, a towering shot over the left field wall.

Luis Encarnacion (1) tied the game for Williamsport in the top of the 8th with his first home run, clearing the scoreboard in left center.

Juan Luis was ejected form the ball game in the 3rd, for spiking his helmet after being called out at 1st on a close play.
Greg Pickett was ejected in the 5th inning for arguing a strike three call.

Auburn got a pair of home runs from Omar Meregildo (1) and Oliver Ortiz (4) as the two teams combined to hit four home runs.

Crosscutters Falls In Back-And-Forth Affair Against West Virginia

Williamsport, PA - Even though Crosscutters and West Virginia both had their opportunities, it was West Virginia that eventually prevailed 5-3 on Friday. The game was tied at three with West Virginia batting in the top of the eighth when Jose Barraza tripled off of Orestes Melendez, driving in two runs.

Baseball - Pitcher Julian Garcia Is Strong In Cutters Loss

Game Highlights: June 22, 2017 – Julian Garcia tossed five strong innings in his 2017 Crosscutters debut, but it was not enough as the Cutters bats were held in check in a 3-1 loss to West Virginia.

Garcia allowed one run, it was earned, and gave up one walk while striking out seven Black Bears batters.

West Virginia Black Bears starter Scooter Hightower silenced the Cutters bats, tossing five perfect innings, striking out 10 in the process.

Jonathan Guzman broke up the combined no-hit effort in the bottom of the 8th inning with a base hit through the left side. Raul Rivas plated the Cutters lone run with a RBI fielders choice that scored Rodolfo Duran. It was Rivas’ 3rd RBI of the season, which is tied for the team lead.

The Crosscutters struck out a season-high 16 times, and have struck out a total of 46 times through their first four games.

Greg Pickett’s 9th inning double gave the Cutters an extra base hit in every game this season.
