Crosscutters Close 2017 Season With A Victory

Game Highlights: September 7th, 2017 - Jake Scheiner flexed his muscles as the Williamsport Crosscutters closed out their 2017 season with a 6-1 victory over the State College Spikes.

Scheiner finished the night 3 for 4 with a double (14), a home run (4), 2 runs scored and a pair of RBI (18.19), coming a triple shy of the cycle. Greg Pickett finished the night 1 for 2 with a pair of walks and 3 runs scored. Malvin Matos collected his 15th double and a RBI (19), finishing the game 1 for 3.

Brian Mims picked up his 6th RBI of the season while Nerluis Martinez collected his 1st RBI in the Crosscutters win.

Julian Garcia earned the win in his final start of the season, tossing five shutout frames. The right-hander allowed just one base hit and three walks, while striking out six.

Damon Jones and Zach Warren finished the night, combining to allow one run on three hits, four walks and striking out four, as the Crosscutters collected 10 punch outs on the night.

Crosscutters Young, Brogdon Deal Spikes Loss

Game Highlights: September 6th, 2017 - Kyle Young and Connor Brogdon combined to hold the Spikes to two runs as the Crosscutters topped their in-state rivals, 5-2 on the road. Kyle Young finished the night, allowing two runs, both earned, over six innings of work. Matching his season high in innings pitched. The lefty struckout six batters, while walking one and allowing eight hits en route to his team-high 7th win.

Crosscutters Fall To The Black Bears

Morgantown, WV --Williamsport's offense was able to procure a pair of leads, but stalled out in their 14-inning, 8-7 loss to West Virginia in the series finale.
Nick Maton got the Crosscutters offense rolling in the top of the 1st inning, blasting a double to the wall in right field, giving the Cutters a man in scoring position. It was the third straight game Maton led off the game with a hit.

Williamsport Crosscutters Pickett Leads Offensive Charge

Game Highlights: September 3rd, 2017 - Greg Pickett’s 1st inning two-run home run helped pace the Crosscutters offensive attack in their 8-3 win over West Virginia. Pickett finished the night 2 for 4 with his th home run and his 22nd RBI of the season.

Yahir Gurrola, Malvin Matos and Nerluis Martinez each collected a pair of doubles as the Crosscutters collected seven doubles, to give them 122 on the season, which is tied for the most in the New York-Penn League.

Every Crosscutter had at least one hit, except Josh Stephen, as the Crosscutters pounded out 15 hits. The most hots they have had in a game since collecting 16 hits against Auburn on August 29th. Andrew Brown improved to 4-4 with the win. Brown allowed three runs, one earned, over 5.1 innings. He surrendered five hits and two walks while striking out five.

Damon Jones tossed 2.2 innings of relief, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out six batters. Jones allowed one inherited run to score in the outing, hitting a batter with the bases loaded. The run that scored belonged to Andrew Brown.

Randy Alcantara tossed a scoreless 9th inning, allowing one hit and striking out one to close the door on the 8-3 win. It was the first time this season that the Crosscutters had three different batters collect two doubles in a single game. With the win, the Crosscutters improve to 4-6 against the BlackBears this season.

Baseball - Cutters Rosso Earns First Win

Game Highlights: September 2nd, 2017 - Ramon Rosso hurled six shutout innings as the Crosscutters handed the Muckdogs a 3-1 loss, giving Rosso his first win in a Cutters uniform.

Rosso finished the night allowing just two hits without walking a batter and striking out eight. The six innings matched his season-high with Williamsport as the eight strikeouts were the most he has had in a Cutters uniform.

Batavia Blanks Cutters And Knock Them Out Of Playoffs

Game Highlights: September 1st, 2017 - Williamsport has little to no answer for Batavia starter Sam Perez as they fell 5-0 at home Friday night. Julian Garcia took the loss, falling to 3-5 on the season, allowing five runs, all earned, on six hits and a walk, while striking out four in just two innings of work. Garcia threw 68 pitches in the outing.

Orestes Melendez, Kyle Dohy and Jhon Nunez were spectacular in relief, combining to shutout Batavia over the final seven inning, allowing just one base hit and five walks while striking out 11 Muckdog batters. Yahir Gurrola finished the night 3 for 4 with a double, picking up three of the Crosscutters five hits on the evening.

Greg Pickett picked up his 10th double of the season, finishing the night 1 for 4. Josh Stephen had the Cutters fifth hit, finishing the night 1 for 4.

It was the the sixth time the Crosscutters were shutout this season. The Crosscutters for the second time on the homestand strikeout 15 batters, having struckout out 15 Doubledays on August 29th. The Crosscutters wrap up their 2017 home schedule tomorrow against the Batavia Muckdogs.
